The Clinical Social Work Journal (CSWJ) is pleased to announce a call for papers for a special issue called: Adapting Clinical Practice for Native American/Alaska Natives co-edited by Pamela L. Begay, Ph.D., LCSW and Manasseh Begay, LCSW, LADAC.

This special issue seeks manuscripts that offer readers a variety of different counseling/therapeutic techniques which can or have been adapted to better serve Native peoples for example cultural/spiritual considerations, care and healing for Native Americans through somatic treatment methods.

The purpose of this issue is to highlight the work of clinicians and their clients in the practice setting that may add to the current literature.

We hope this special issue can support clinicians to integrate new ideas and tools into their practice and for educators to utilize additional insights to add to their teaching about clinical practice and tools which can better support education.

Some topic examples include, but not limited to: Adaption of DBT skills exercises for Native Americans, Integrating traditional healers and/or practice in the clinical space, Creating space for Historical Trauma, Clinical considerations in working with Native Americans, Integrating culture as a form of healing, the importance of addressing spirituality with Native Americans, to name a few.

Interested authors should submit an abstract of no more than 250 words describing the proposed manuscript. Those chosen will be invited to submit a full manuscript that will be between 10-15 pages in length.

Each Abstract should include the following:

·       Introduction of the topic AND its relevance to working with Native American/Alaska Native individuals.

·       How the author has adapted or documented space in the clinical setting for treatment which could support Native American/Alaska Native individuals toward change.

In addition to the above, full manuscripts will also require:

·       Background information about the practice/treatment method.

·       How this is designed to support Native American/Alaska Natives.

·       Ways in which an individual can begin to put these methods into practice.

·       Expand on information listed above.

Deadlines for the process:

·       Abstracts should be submitted by March 15, 2025

·       Invitations for full manuscripts will be sent out by March 30, 2025

Invitations do not guarantee publication. The editors use a peer review process that help determine applicability and focus of the special issue.
