About Us

The Indigenous and Tribal Social Work Educators’ Association is committed to achieving social justice and equity for Indigenous Peoples in ways that respect their ancient cultures and sovereign rights and that address a legacy of colonization and oppression through the social work profession. We aim to provide support and resources to social work educators who are dedicated to promoting Indigenous perspectives and practices in their teaching and research. Our mission is to empower Indigenous Peoples and communities to address the unique challenges they face and to promote positive change in the social work profession. We believe that by working together, we can create a more just and equitable world for all.

Our Mission

The Mission of the Indigenous and Tribal Social Work Educators Association is to provide culturally safe spaces for Indigenous social workers, educators, scholars and community stakeholders for them to share cultural knowledge, values, and perspectives. By providing support, mentorship, and advocacy in scholarship and research WE provide offerings that foster future generations of social work leadership and practitioners who will accept those offerings and use them to empower and engage our Indigenous Peoples and communities. WE strive toward decolonizing social work by infusing Indigenous content and cultural relevance into curricula and conducting knowledge gathering in a way that is appropriate and beneficial to Indigenous Peoples and communities.
